Britax Boulevard 70 Convertible Car Seat, Onyx
It is very difficult to keep track of what the best car seats are when there so many new models available every month. That is certainly what one of my readers found when she was researching which convertible car seat to buy. By the time she had made her choice and considered it for a couple of weeks, the same manufacturer had released a new model. Because safety was her number one concern, she decided to ask me for my opinion.
When it comes to safety I think there is one brand that I would always choose above others and that is Britax. Based on my friend’s budget, I had no hesitation in recommending the Britax Boulevard 70 convertible car seat. There are many features that make this one of Britax’s bestselling car seats.
Another thing that makes this car seat so attractive is the fact that recent price reductions make it the best convertible car seat for the money.

Big Improvement On What Was Already a Great Car Seat
Britax already made an excellent convertible car seat - the Boulevard 65. So why did they feel the need to produce a new one? Well, standards evolve and technology advances to keep up. There is no doubt that the Boulevard 70 has introduced many improvements that not only make it superior to the Boulevard 65 but also make it better than convertible car seats from other manufacturers such as Graco, First Years and Evenflo.
The differences are subtle but easy to see when you compare the two Britax seats. For a start you will find that your child sits lower in the seat and the overall seat size is smaller, which makes it easier to get your child into and also removes the obstruction in your view through the rear window. The seat is more contoured and slimmer, which helps to make it even safer as it limits any sideways motion. One of the biggest improvements is the addition of three recline positions. Now you can install it facing forward in the middle position and your child’s head won’t slump forward.
The Boulevard 70 is also more practical in that it accommodates the special cup holder, which is a big positive on any long journeys.
Safety is the Strength of the Britax Boulevard 70 Convertible Car Seat
Even though all car seats on the market need to pass the same crash tests, the steel-reinforced frame of the Boulevard 70 gives you more piece of mind compared to some seats that have frames manufactured from plastic. One of the best aspects of this car seat is the fact that it is designed to allow you have your child rear facing for as long as possible. There is no doubt that rear facing is safer than forward. For the average sized child you will be able to use the seat facing to the rear until your child is two and a half to three years old.
When you compare the safety aspects of another Britax seat such as the Marathon 70 vs. the Boulevard 70, you will see that the specifications are basically the same apart from the fact that the Boulevard 70 has additional side cushioning padding around the head. Britax call this feature True Side Impact. The extra padding means that your child’s head will be kept in position rather than be shunted sideways if you get hit in a side impact.
As far as Britax safety features are concerned, this seat contains the lot. First there is their unique SafeCell Technology that provides SafeCells that compress in a crash so as to lower the center of gravity, which stops the natural forward rotation of the child seat. Then there is the patented energy-absorbing Versa-Tether. This offers a staged-release of the tether webbing to slow the forward movement to safe speed. Finally the True Side Impact Protection creates an extra layer of EPP foam that absorbs energy and keeps the head, neck and spine aligned.
Overall, the Boulevard 70 offers 360 Degree Protection to minimize injury to your child from all directions.
Installation is a Breeze
While most seats on the market nowadays are relatively easy to install into the car, it can be difficult to get a fit that is tight and secure. With the Boulevard 70 it is relatively easy to get a nice tight fit that allows no movement. It is a very quick operation to get a very solid install, made possible also by the fact that Britax provide an excellent user’s manual. The installation videos are well worth watching, either on the Britax website or on Youtube.
Easy to Use - Comfortable As Well
The seat is very comfortable due to the inclusion of several comfort pads for the belly, torso and shoulders. The chest clip is easy to use and the Velcro tabs are a very clever way to keep the harness open when you want you put your baby into the seat. The headwings, which are not available on the Marathon, are an ideal resting place for the head when your child wants to have a nap. When your child gets bigger you can use the quick adjust feature that means you don’t have to remove the seat and re-thread the straps to accommodate more height.
Britax Boulevard 70 Convertible Car Seat Has Plenty of Useful Features
The Britax Boulevard 70 convertible car seat will accommodate children rear facing from 5 to 40 pounds and forward facing from 1 year and 20 pounds up to 70 pounds. The 5-point, no-rethread and quick-adjust harness provides you with multiple buckle and recline adjustment options.
For maximum comfort, the seat reclines in both the forward and rear positions. For parents, the premium lower latch connectors enable a quick, simple, and tight installation. Your vehicle seat is protected by the addition of anti-slip contoured base grips that also ensure a tight installation in every type of vehicle. Finally, the cover set and pads remove can be easily removed for cleaning without disassembly or removal of the car seat…Buy Britax Boulevard 70

Tips For Driving Safely With Your Baby
Safety is the primary concern of all parents. When it comes to in-car safety the saying, “It’s better to be safe than sorry,” has never been more true. Driving with our children can be a nervous time, particular when driving newborne babies. In order to provide the safest environment when driving it is best to follow a few simple tips.
1. Switch off unnecessary equipment - it is best to declutter your car so that you have nothing to think about other than your driving. In particular you should not use your phone, whether to text or talk.
2. Reduce distractions to a minimum - turn off anything that you don’t need. This can include the radio or CD if it is distracting you. If you have a passenger make sure that your attention is not diverted by them in any way.
3. Know where you are going - there is nothing that is more likely to take your mind of driving than when you are lost…Read More
